A Guna Women sewing a mola in the San Blas Islands, Panama
This year in December 2022, we are celebrating 22 years of providing excellent products and services to all our customers. Thank you to everyone who made this possible and for the opportunity to serve you.
We are happy to announce that beginning 2012 our new buyers are a group of Guna Women from San Blas Islands, they will be in charge of buying all the molas and mola items in the Islands, as well as coordinating all the shipping details so we can received the products.
-All items are property of Mola Art and Craft and is Prohibited to reproduce in any way without authorization. If you need any photos, please e-mail me.
-Every Mola that you buy from us will make a big difference in the life of the Guna
Artist.
-I frequently travel to the Guna Yala, Panama and choose every mola carefully making sure that is in perfect conditions and the work on each panel is excellent.
-The molas made by Gunas of Panama are not the same as the molas that could be in the Uraba, Colombia, the stitching of the Gunas of Panama is the best.
-Now more than ever before the Gunas Artist need your help during Covid-19 because the economy is not the best in Panama, the country was lock down several times for a few months and many of them had to close their shops in the city and move back to the Islands, because the sells were down. Many of them don't have access to the internet, and what is more important right now through the pandemic is to give the women work to do. When you are buying a mola you are helping them. Panama continue to strugle with the Covid-19.
-The income from Mola Art and Craft allows the Women to continue to preserve their traditions/art, besides helping to sustain their communities with health care, education, etc.
-We pay top $$$$ for every piece that we buy from the Gunas, when we buy our molas we are thinking about how that money is going to help the Gunas to continue this beautiful art, then we think about our buyers "you", we try to purchase the best quality, molas that will last longer. Some people think that if the mola doesn't have slight sign of wear is not authentic, that is completely wrong. As long as you purchase the molas directly from the Guna Women of Guna Yala (San Blas Islands), Panama they are authentic. Of course some molas may show more of the sign of being worn, first because they has been exposed to the daily sunlight/salt, other piece has not been exposed too long but they will last longer (those are the molas that we try to buy), you want to buy molas that you can pass onto your children's.
-Quality on each product is warranteed and I sell my molas according to the design, the degree of elaboration (work) that is put in every piece, how perfect are the cuts, curve, time that they spent on the piece and last the number of layers. In my personal opinion is fare to pay the price that each individual artist ask for.
-The piece of art that you are purchasing is so unique as you are, and no one else in earth will have one exactly like yours!
-When you buy any mola(s) you are not only supporting indigenous tribe, the purchase of each item allow them to give their children a better life and it means so much to the women because of the income that it would provide.
-All items listed and photographed as accurately as possible.
-Our molas are 100% authentic, "one of a kind", handmade, using cotton fabric or blend of cotton (please note that sometimes the Gunas can use any fabric available for the base layer or backing and this doesn't interfere with the design, let's remember that the Gunas don't have all the tools and fabric that we are fortunate to have here in the USA), the products are of excellent quality, well made, and the molas will leave you unaware of the needlework.
-All molas have enough fabric around the theme so you can frame your mola or you can easy incorporate into a quilt or craft project.
-Our molas hasn't been made in mass production, meaning " based on the same pattern-design" we strive to look for unique products that are handcrafted by some of the most talented Kuna Artist, if you look at our small molitas and large molas each one is different. This will assure you that you will received a unique mola design with vivid colors that blend together.
