First Exhibition of Molas in Panama
One of the most recognizable artworks of Panama will be displayed from today until January 31st, 2010. More than 200 molas will be exhibited at the Museum of the Panama Canal in the old quarter of the city.
Molas are part of the private collection of Spanish J. Llopis, which carries more than half a century has been achieved by combining them and a set of over 600 pieces.
These Fiber Arts are true works of art of the Kuna Indian women who embody the myths, fauna, flora, traditions and worldview of the indigenous people who live primarily in the archipelago of San Blas (Kuna Yala) in the northeastern Caribbean coast of Panama .
They are works of art worthy of having his own museum in Panama, said Llopis, who was willing to lend their assistance to realize this initiative.
Molas, in Kuna language means "clothing" are commonly square or rectangular pieces, hand-sewn by women with multiple overlapping cotton fabrics, combining patterns and colors, and which the women's incorporated in their "blouses" .
